Based on an ultrasonic sensor widely used in the automotive sector, the PSS is used for checking the status of occupancy of the parking areas. The information gathered by the sensors allow you to provide citizens with parking guidance services to the available parking bays which help to keep the urban traffic smoother, or manage innovative services such as PayBySpace or Parking Dynamic Pricing (demand driven pricing of parking) . Tech Specs

The PPS – System consists of two hardware components, the PSS (Parking Spot Sensor) and DCU (Data Collector Unit), and a piece of software, INES Cloud – PSS Parking Supervisor Module. The PSS is a wireless sensor based on ultrasonic technology and patented, available in two versions designed to suit the specific conditions of the parking areas and any urban environment:

  • SURFACE PSS: The surface sensor can be glued or screwed on the bay surface to be monitored. It features a REFLECTOR and has the dimensions provided by the Traffic Code. It can be customized with the emblem of the town or the mobility agency.
  • IN GROUND PSS: the drowned sensor is mounted flush with the road surface in a hole of 12.5 cm in diameter and 7 cm in depth. It is equipped with an outer protective case that prevents removal.

The DCU is the unit collecting and transmitting the data received by PSS and submitting them to INES Cloud together with monitoring data. Each DCU manages on average a number of 25-35 sensors, variable according to the shape of the parking areas. INES Cloud – PSS Parking Supervisor Module is the control center that allows parking managers to know in real time the state of occupancy of parking bays and to make sustainable mobility plan based on the analysis of real data.

    The PSS – System enables parking guidance services towards available parking areas on smartphones, web and variable message signs which help to tear down the search for parking, which is the main cause of congestion and pollution in the city. With a predictive algorithm developed by Kiunsys you can do a search on available bays according to place and time of departure / arrival and be guided to your chosen destination according to the prediction on the parking availability.

    The PSS – System is also an excellent solution to tackle abusive parking, optimize the on-street control and improve performance. Through integration with the parking payment systems (pay and display parking meters, mobile app), the controller can be directed to the parking areas where payment is expired, reducing the number of unauthorized parking.

  • Dynamic Pricing of Parking Tariffs

    The occupancy data of each individual bay provided by INES PSS – Parking Spot Sensor it allows to activate policies of dynamic pricing for parking, which increase and decrease parking tariffs based on the actual demand (eg. peak hours, during special events , in the weekend). Such policies promote a more equitable distribution of flows, cut down the traffic and the time of the search for parking (-50% of the kilometers traveled, -43% of time) and reduce polluting emissions (-30%). Also some trials conducted in some American cities have shown that dynamic pricing helps maximize the occupancy rate and increase the profitability of each stall.
